From March 17-21, 2025, AUCA Librarian Madina Kerimova visited the Central European University (CEU) Library in Vienna through the OSUN Staff Mobility Fellowship. This program offered valuable opportunities for professional collaboration and knowledge exchange.
From day one, the CEU Library team was warm and welcoming, making knowledge exchange effortless through discussions, hands-on training, and informal chats. I was impressed by their advanced library systems, which efficiently manage digital resources, and Austria鈥檚 strong national Open Access policies. CEU鈥檚 transformative agreements with publishers and commitment to Open Science were truly inspiring
A visit to their Media Hub showed me how libraries can support digital storytelling in creative ways. I also toured the WU University Library, one of the largest economics and business libraries in the German speaking world, where I saw firsthand how thoughtful architecture enhances learning.
At the same time, I shared AUCA Library鈥檚 work in supporting students and faculty through research guidance, digital resources, and information literacy programs. I also highlighted AUCA鈥檚 Open Access initiatives, such as awareness campaigns, repository promotions, and advocacy efforts. While our infrastructures differ, our shared goal of fostering open scholarship and collaboration across universities connects us.
Beyond professional growth, this experience reinforced the vital role libraries play in bridging knowledge and communities. I look forward to strengthening ties between AUCA and CEU through potential collaborations like joint webinars, Open Access advocacy, and digital scholarship projects.
